UNIOSUN HOLDS 2-DAY CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR MANAGEMENT STAFF

The Management staff of Osun State University are now more promising and better equipped in their mastery of the university administration following their participation at  a two-day capacity building workshop held from Tuesday, 13th to Wednesday, 14th February, 2018.

The workshop, which opened at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium and continued at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Osogbo, was designed to train Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and Units. Various interesting and highly instructive presentations made at the Workshop include "Understanding and Leading the Vision and Mission of the University; UNIOSUN History, University Tradition and Academic Culture" presented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARIP), and "Corruption: Implications for Sustainable Development" presented by the Director of Quality Assurance, Professor A. L. Kehinde.

Other topics treated at the Workshop include: Understanding the Operational Units and Directorates in the Vice-Chancellor's Office, in the Registry, Bursary and the University Library while the Vice-Chancellor's illuminating presentation on Mentoring, marked the beginning of training schedule on the second day of the Workshop.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Development), Prof Janet Olaitan, in her presentation, enlightened the participants on Departmental, Faculty and College Administration while Mr. A. A. Adeosun led a chat on Effective Communication which include memo, minutes and report writing.

Topics such as Team Building, Managing Human Resources in a Multi-Campus System and Management of Stress and Healthy Living and so on were also treated at the workshop.
The Workshop was punctuated with question and answer sessions, tea breaks, photograph session and lunch.

In her remarks, the Special Adviser to Governor of the State of Osun on Higher Education, Bursary and Scholarship, Professor Grace Akinola tasked the participants on effective management of their subordinates and ensuring that peace reins as the system can only move forward in an atmosphere of peace.

She said: "Creative potential of staff cannot be realized in a non-peaceful environment. So, manage your staff in such a way to achieve a peaceful environment."
According to her, "Leaders can't do it alone. Learn to delegate but accept responsibilities since you cannot delegate accountability. Understand the creative process so you can know those who are creative.

"Everybody has the capacity to be creative. Encourage your staff to be creative and contribute to the process of moving the University forward. Identify those who are more creative and motivate them."
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola maintained that the workshop was a demonstration of his administration's commitment to training and retraining of staff for excellence service delivery. He thanked the organising team for their effort towards the success of the Workshop.
