Wale
Oni is a media technology scholar and currently a doctoral candidate at the
University of Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom. He holds BA and MA
degrees in Communications and Language Arts obtained at the
premier University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Having held formal teaching
positions in Nigeria, research and academic interests cut across new
(social) media studies, cultural studies, discourse analysis,
political communications and journalism studies. With bias in media psychology,
‘Wale is currently working on how technology adoption in broadcasting is
shaping African/Nigerian journalists’ perceptions of their professional
roles. He has publications in peer
reviewed journals with chapter publications in reputable books
on media and discourse analysis.
In
2012, he won a travel grant to Bauhaus Universitat, Weimar Germany where he
presented the only African paper on mobile phone use under the theme Media
of the Metapolis.
Wale Oni’s
interest in media and allied communication technologies spanning over a decade
now makes him one of Nigeria’s emerging scholar of new/digital media.
