UNIOSUN HOLDS THIRD POSTGRADUATE MATRICULATION CEREMONY AS VC TASKS STUDENTS ON NATION BUILDING

The Vice-Chancellor
of Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola, has tasked the newly
admitted postgraduate students of the university to see the new challenge as a
means of contributing their quota in proffering solutions to the myriad of
problems confronting the nation.
Professor Popoola
gave this charge while addressing the newly admitted postgraduate students
during the matriculation ceremony held on Wednesday, 15th August,
2018 at the Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium.
He said as a primary
stakeholder in nation building, the postgraduate college has rejuvenated
distinguished lectures series to build gap between town and gown as well as
inter-disciplinary research discourse for discovery of new inventions and
findings capable of taking the state and nation to required economic
prosperity.
He assured that the university's
postgraduate administration has been strengthened and re-positioned to meet the
current and future challenges in the industry even as he reiterated the university’s
commitment in contributing to nation development. He said, “In line with the
mission and vision of the University, we are creating a unique institution
committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skill based training and
tradition of excellence in teaching, research and community service.”
He admonished the
cheering students to be steadfast in their new educational endeavour. “I urge
you all not to see postgraduate education as educational center but an academic
field with deep root in the core University values of teaching, research and
service to the community,” he said.
In his address, the Provost
of Postgraduate College, Professor Bayonle Olorede, enjoined the matriculating
students to see their new academic pursuit as a serious business that demands
total commitment, adding ‘it is the height of pursuit reserved for innovation,
creativity and solutions’.
The matriculation
ceremony, during which fifty (50) students across various programmes were
matriculated, was the 3rd edition of its kind in the history of
the University Postgraduate College.
The event had in
attendance, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola, Registrar of the
University, represented by Mr. Adewale Adeosun, Bursar, Mr. Feruke Bolarinwa,
Provost of the College, Professor Bayonle Olorede, the Acting Librarian, Miss
O. O. Ilori, Deputy Provost of the College, Dr. Kehinde Bashir, Postgraduate
College Secretary, Mr. Haruna Olawale Adetu amongst others.
