UNIOSUN WINS 3 MEDALS, AS STUDENT EMERGES MOST VALUABLE FEMALE PLAYER IN 2018 COLLEGIATE TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP (COTACH)
The commitment of
Professor Labode Popoola-led administration to the development of sports in
Osun State University recently produced another positive result following the
university's winning of three medals and emergence of one of her students, Ayomide Esho as
the most valuable female player in the just-concluded 2018 Collegiate Taekwondo
Championship (COTACH).
COTACH is an annual
sporting competition which draws taekwondo athletes from universities,
polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria competing both in
sparring and forms demonstration.
The 2018 competition, which held at Hussam
Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos
State started on Thursday 1st August, 2018 and ended on Saturday 4th August,
2018.
Osun State University was represented at
the competition by Ayomide Esho, Ogungbemi Anifat, Gbele Elizabeth,
Ajayi Taofeek and Adebisi Ibrahim. Ayomide Esho a recent graduate of the
Department of Agric. Economics, won Gold medal in the 2018 COTACH game and was
adjudged the most valuable female player this year.
Ogungbemi Anifat a final year student in
the Public Health Department (won Silver medal) while Gbele Elizabeth a student
in the Anatomy Department, College of Health Sciences won Bronze medal.
Other members of the team that participated
in the championship are Ajayi Taofeek and Adebisi Ibrahim both from the
Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Science, Engineering and
Technology.
The elated medalists on Wednesday, August
15, 2018 presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola by the
Acting Director of Sports, Oluwafisoye, Peter Adefisoye.
The Vice-Chancellor
congratulated the team for their brilliant perform at the championship and
encouraged them to prepare for more competitions. He promised to look
into the possibility of UNIOSUN hosting the COTACH championship in no distant
time.
