UNIOSUN HOLDS WORKSHOP ON MICROBIAL GENOMICS AND SURVEILLANCE
UNIOSUN
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola, on Monday, July 2, 2018 declared
open a 3-Day Workshop on Microbial Genomics and Surveillance in furtherance of
the activities of 2018 Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme (CADFP)
won by Osun State University, Osogbo and designed to increase Africa's brain
circulation, build capacity at hosts institution and develop long-term,
mutually-beneficial collaborations between Universities in Africa and United
States of America.
The
workshop is one of the outputs of the collaborative efforts of CADFP Fellow
(Dr. Olabisi Ojo of Albany State University, Albany, Georgia, USA), CADFP Host
(Dr. Sunday Akinde, Uniosun) and Dr. Bamidele Iwalokun (Nigerian Institute of
Medical Research, Yaba, Lagos).
Declaring
the workshop open, Prof. Labode Popoola said that Osun State University is
poised towards using effective teaching and learning and human capacity development
in engendering socio-economic development in the University's immediate
environment, national and global sphere.
He
added that his administration would be committed to supporting activities and
collaboration towards achieving the mission and vision of the University at
both local and international levels.
The
Vice-Chancellor later admonished the participants to utilize the opportunity of
the workshop in learning, networking and building collaboration towards their
career development and nation building.
Dr.
Sunday Akinde (CADFP Host) in his opening remark said the workshop will bridge
the gap in knowledge acquisition in DNA technology and other high throughput technologies.
He said this workshop would be the first in the series of technical workshop
sections that would be organized under the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship
Program (CADFP).
He
informed the gathering that Seventy-Four (74) participants were carefully
selected out of the One Hundred and Fifty (150) applications received from
Nigeria and other African Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Polytechnics etc.
